Etymology
Compound of 演繹 (en'eki, “to deduce”) + 法 (-hō, “method”).
Coined by Japanese philosopher Inoue Tetsujirō in 1881 in his work 哲学字彙 (Tetsugaku Jii, “Dictionary of Philosophy”) as a translation of English deduction, based on the phrase 更互演繹,作為此書 in the Doctrine of the Mean (《中庸》).[1]
