scheuern
German
Etymology
From Middle High German schiuren, schūren, of uncertain origin, perhaps a borrowing from Old French escurer, from Late Latin excurare (“to clean off”, literally “to take good care of”), from Latin ex + curare.
Compare Middle Low German schǖren, Dutch schuren, schuieren. More at scour.
