Usage notes
Sāriġ does not mean "sorry" in the sense of apologetic. To express an apology, forġiefan (in the imperative form) or belādian (in either the imperative form, or in the indicative with a reflexive pronoun of the one apologising) can be used: Forġief þū mē lēof! Þæt nis ġiet ġearu. ("Forgive me, sir! That's not ready yet."). Alternatively, ofþynċan may be used: Mē ofþyncþ þæt wē fliton ("I'm sorry that we quarrelled", literally "It displeases me that we quarrelled").
