Uncertain. According to Blust (2010), from the hypothetical Old Tagalog *lamog, from either Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *dahəmuʀ, or from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *lamuʀ. Compare Ilocano amor, Ibaloi amol, Cebuano yamog, Hiligaynon namog, Maranao namog, Tboli amu, Tausug damug, and Malay nyamur.
