From old plural blawd (“flowers”) + -yn, from Middle Welsh blawt, from Proto-Celtic *blātus (compare Cornish bleujen, Breton bleuñv, Irish bláth), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰleh₃- (“blossom, flower”).
