abaty

Welsh

Etymology

From abad (abbot) + (house). Phonetically unlikely to be a direct descendant of Latin abbatīa (which would give a form like *abeidi), but probably influenced by it.

Pronunciation

  • (North Wales) IPA(key): /aˈbatɨ̞/
  • (South Wales) IPA(key): /aˈbati/
  • (file)
  • Rhymes: -atɨ̞

Noun

  1. abbey
