Proto-Turkic

*kunduŕ

Etymology

Unknown. Can be a derivation of *kun- (an ancient verb or noun), if *-duŕ suffix also used in;

Often compared also with Proto-Ugric *kuntɜ (beaver), whence Hungarian hód, Mansi хунтыль (huntylʹ). Both loaning directions (Turkic → Ugric, Ugric → Turkic) have been proposed.[1][2]

As per above, the suggested etymology may be true and itself could be from < Ugric since there were no beavers in Proto-Turkic urheimat. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)

Noun

*kunduŕ

  1. beaver
