Substantivized neuter adjective *vedrъ (“(of weather) fair, clear”), compare Czech jasno n, dial. Russian ясень f (jasenʹ, “clear weather”). Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *wedʰrom, whence also Proto-Germanic *wedrą (“weather”).
