From Proto-Balto-Slavic *tekas, from Proto-Indo-European *tekʷos, from *tekʷ- (“to run, flow”). Equivalent to *teťi (“to flow, run”) + *-ъ.
Baltic cognates include Latvian tȩks m (“foot-path”), tȩka f (“foot-path”)
Indo-European cognates include Old Irish intech (“road”)
