Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *magtis, from Proto-Indo-European *mogʰtis (from *megʰ-), whence also Proto-Germanic *mahtiz (Gothic 𐌼𐌰𐌷𐍄𐍃 (mahts, “power, might”), Old English miht). Equivalent to *moťi + *-tь.
