From Proto-Balto-Slavic *gurnas, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰr̥-nó-s, from *gʷʰer- (“to heat”). Cognate with Latin furnus (“oven”), Sanskrit घृण (ghṛṇá, “heat”).
