Etymology
From Early Proto-Slavic *bábu.[1] From Proto-Indo-European *bʰabʰ- (“bean”). Cognate with Old Prussian babo, Latin faba, Proto-Germanic *baunō (whence English bean), Albanian bathë, Ancient Greek φακός (phakós, “lentil”).
