Etymology
From a stem *pit(e)- + *-kä, from Proto-Uralic *pide. Formally identical to Proto-Samoyedic *pirkä (“high”); other cognates include Hungarian fel, föl (“up”). Many of the derived terms are derived directly from the stem *pit(e)-.
