From Middle High German rëche, Old High German rëhkho. Cognate with Middle Dutch rake, Old Norse reka (“rake”), Old English racu, Dutch reek (“rake”), English rake, Gothic 𐍂𐌹𐌺𐌰𐌽 (rikan, “to heap up, collect”).[1] From Proto-Germanic *rakō, *rekô (“rake”).
