Etymology

Cognate with 鋤く (suku, “to hoe”), from the sense of scooping material through a liquid,[1] and with 透く (suku, “to be seen through; to have cracks through”), from the sense of going through, as the liquid goes through the pulp in the straining phase.[2]

Probably also cognate with 掬う (sukuu, “to scoop up”), 救う (sukuu, “to rescue”).
