Etymology

Relative adjective (nisba) composed of الْإِغْرِيق (al-ʔiḡrīq) + ـِيّ (-iyy). Probably from Latin Graecus of uncertain origin, perhaps derived from the toponym Γραῖα (Graîa) or from other Paleo-Balkanic forms from a tribal name Graii.
