From Old East Slavic мьнѣти (mĭněti) or мьнити (mĭniti), from Proto-Slavic *mьněti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *minḗˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *men-. Cognate to Lithuanian miñti (to recall, to mention), Latvian minêt (to mention), Ancient Greek μέμονα (mémona, to remember).
