Etymology
By metathesis from Old East Slavic пакость (pakostĭ), from Proto-Slavic *pakostь (“vicissitude”), whence also па́кість (pákistʹ). Likely formed in the northern dialects, as it has the suffix -ость (-ostʹ) rather than the expected -ість (-istʹ).
