боро́тися (borótysja) + -ьба́ (-ʹbá). Likely a later reformation, other languages mostly reflect Proto-Slavic *borьba (whence also dialectal Ukrainian борба́ (borbá)).

Cognate with Belarusian барацьба́ (baracʹbá).
